Abstract

|
Nonunion of the surgical neck of the humerus is uncommon. It is usually associated with displaced fractures. Operative intervention is indicated when nonunion causes pain and results in a nonfunctioning shoulder. Various operative methods have
been
used
to obtain union. Despite internal fixation with wire, screw, staple. Plate and screws, intramedulary nail and fibula strut graft, secure fixation is not easily achieved due to many reasons such as osteoporosis. Displacement and shape of
fragments.
Deficient bone stock, anatomical shape of humeral head. We report on the treatment results by intramedullary nailing and tension band wiring in 8 patients with nonunion of surgical neck of the humerus. We think that Rush intramedullary pinning
and
tension band wiring supplemented with or without bone grafts affords a simple and effective alternative for rigid fixation which allow early shoulder motion.
